Literary libations at Quill

In case the memo got lost in the hustle-and-bustle of the new year, we’re here to remind you of the literary brilliance that kicked off this month at Quill—a bar nestled deep in the pages of the historic Jefferson Hotel.

Quill bar has declared 2014 the Year of the Author! For each month, they’ve chosen a famous author, who will serve as the inspiration for a signature cocktail. Special cocktail napkins, quoting the words of each author, will be featured as the calendar pages flip.

The month of January has paid homage to the great Mary Shelley, coinciding with the latest movie release of her most famous work, Frankenstein. This month’s Mary Shelley Cocktail sports Gin, Ginger Liqueur, Chartreuse, Honey and Pear—eerie and delicious with a touch of dry ice smoke.

Those hoping to sample, however, should act fast, as the 1st of next month ushers in a new author-inspired drink…

Come February, who better to honor during Black History Month than Alex Haley, author of Roots? His cocktail, concocted of Brandy, Apple Cider, Lemon, and Jerry Thomas Bitters, is almost as powerful as the cocktail napkin on which it will be served: “In every conceivable manner, the family is link to our past, bridge to our future.” Amen. Ponder that.

Quill undergoes a whimsical makeover in March, as the 110th birthday of Dr. Seuss falls on March 2nd. April, which is National Poetry Month, is dedicated to the eloquent William Shakespeare; and December is all about Charles Dickens and A Christmas Carol. Eggnog, anyone? You get the idea.

Come celebrate the literary greats with a cocktail. Sounds like a ‘novel’ idea to me.
